What is the vastu of a plot?
Vastu experts believe that an auspicious and good plot of land brings prosperity, happiness and success to the people living in the house constructed over it.It is very important to test and inspect the plot completely as per vastu standards, before purchasing it. If one buys the wrong plot and constructs their home on it, then it becomes extremely difficult and nearly impossible to rectify these vastu flaws later in time.
Certain ways in which the goodness and the auspiciousness of a plot can be tested and determined are mentioned below:
1. When considering the purchase of a plot one should visit the plot, and while standing straight on it, they should close their eyes and take ten deep breaths. They should try to feel the vibrations transmitted by the land. If one feels happy, calm and relaxed then the plot a good and is worth a buy. If the individual is not an intuitive person then they should ask a more sensitive person to conduct this exercise on their behalf. A new born baby is most attuned to these vibrations and while on the plot, if the baby smiles and is happy, then the plot is perfect for purchase.
2. An alternative method of finding if the plot is worth a buy is by digging a 1.5 feet deep pit in the middle of the plot and filling it with water. After a few minutes if the water level in the pit remains the same or decreases by at the most 10%, then the plot is highly powerful, fruitful and perfect for purchase. However, if the level goes down by less the 50% then the plot is considered average while if the water level in the pit reduces by 60% or more then the plot is considered inauspicious for purchase.
3. Another method of determining the auspiciousness of the plot is by digging a knee deep hole with a diameter of 1mt, in the centre of the plot. Then refill the hole with the soil already dug out. If after filling the hole, some soil is still left then the plot is good for purchase.
4. The favourability of the land can also be tested by taking the soil from the plot and clenching it tightly in the fist. On opening the hand after a few minutes if the soil quickly slides out of the hand then purchase of such a plot should be avoided. However, if the soil sticks to the palm and does not slip out of the hand easily then the plot is considered good for purchase.

Factors to be considered while buying a plot:
Say “Yes” to such plots
North facing plots are considered the most lucky and auspicious by vastu experts. If not this then east, west, and lastly south facing plots should be considered. Plots with a natural slope it their north – east corner and a high south- west corner are considered very auspicious. Lush green land covered with greenery and vegetation and agriculturally fertile plots are both considered as live land perfect for inhabitation. Thus such plots are considered perfect for buying as per vastu gurus. Corner plots are considered highly auspicious and are believed to bring happiness and prosperity at home. Plot edged by running roads in all directions is considered excellent for commercial constructions.
Say “ No” to such plots
One should never buy a plot near a hospital or cemetery. These places are a storehouses of negative energiesand infections as well.Buying a residential plot near a temple, church or other places of worship should be avoided. Although highly sacred, these places are still filled with the negative energies bought in by the worshippers and thus emit a lot of negativity in the surroundings.Further, if one at all has to buy such a plot, they should ensure that the shadows of these structures do not fall on their building.
One should remember to never buy a plot facing a T- junction or a dead end on the road. Also plots with a large tree, electric or telephone pole in front of their entrances should never be considered for purchase. Stones and garbage present on the plot make it unsuitable for purchase as per vastu shastra. Avoid buying a residential plot near or in front of a bog or industrial building. This hampers and restricts the development growth and success of the residents of the house. Never buy a plot sandwiched between two large buildings.A large building or a mountain in the north of the house or a river in the south of the home is considered inauspicious as per vastu experts. Hence these factors should be kept in mind while buying a plot for residential construction.
