A burst of colours is not just pleasing to the eyes. Indian astrology views several different colours hidden in the rays of the sun as a cure for many diseases and a conqueror of various difficulties. These colours are nothing more than energies which are thought to influence one’s body and mind. Each colour has its own symbolic meaning and is used as a medium to increase a person’s aura and heighten their power.
Red
Red is seen as the colour of fire and blood. It is associated with the Root Chakra that’s located at the base of the spine and represents the reproductive system of a male and female. Red is considered a panacea for people suffering from introversion, laziness and insecurities stemming from inner fear. This colour is also used to cure asthma, diseases of the larynx and skin, chronic coughs in as much as it is used to boost energy and enhance libido. Orange
The colour orange signifies harmony, aspiration, intelligence, sociability and contentment. It is associated with the Sacral Chakra that’s directly related to the pancreas. Orange has its own mantra which when interpreted means ‘I am satisfied”. It is an optimistic colour which can be used to overcome mental illness, depression and discontent. It is also known to aid in the treatment of arteriosclerosis, cardio sclerosis, anorexia, anemia and discomforts of the digestive system.
Yellow
Yellow symbolizes the sun and it is all about radiating positive energy, creativity, intellect and protection. It is associated with the Manipoora chakra that’s located just above the navel representing the adrenals. This colour is used to combat glandular diseases and diseases of the lymphatic system while strengthening the nervous system.

Blue
Blue is the colour that’s associated with the Throat chakra that’s linked to the thyroid gland. It is an inspirational colour believed to have a profoundly calming and relaxing sensation on the body and mind. On one level this colour is used for maintaining mental stability and healing the senses. On a more physical level it is used to treat rheumatism, arthritis, stomach pains, muscles cramps, migraines and liver disorders.
Green
Green is attributed to nature, adventure, youth and growth. Green has its association with the Heart chakra that’s located at the thymus. It is seen as an effective cure for dull students, improving memory power and intelligence. It is also applied for the treatment of whooping coughs, bronchitis, swellings and inflammations of the joints, while greatly believed to have a positive influence in the treatment of cysts and diabetes.
Indigo
Indigo is seen as a cooling colour that develops strength, expressiveness, persuasiveness as well as psychic perception. Associated with the ‘Third eye’ or Aajna chakra that’s linked to the pituitary gland, blue is used to aid treatments pertaining to the eyes, nose, ears and mental problems. Also known to have a calming effect, it is widely used in attempts to treat addiction.

Violet
Considered to be a meditative colour, violet is attributed to an aura of spirituality, high-ideals, devotion and peace. It is associated with the Crown chakra located at the top of the head. In colour therapy, violet is employed in treatments of the lymphatic system and the spleen. It is also a colour that’s used to soothe organs, relax muscles and calm the nervous system.
White
White is the colour of peace, purity, innocence and illumination resulting from the highest understanding. This colour is greatly employed for cleansing, establishing order in one’s life and bringing about clarity. White’s mantra is ‘I am illumined’.
Black
Black is a forceful colour that’s representative of dignity, steadfastness, stability, formality, convention and an absolute zero-tolerance. This colour is used for promoting stability, enhancing protection and aids in the healing of misunderstandings.
Each of these colours is affiliated to a planet and is known to contain the energy of that planet. Red is linked to Mars, Orange is linked to Mercury, Yellow to the sun, Green represents Venus and Earth, Blue is affiliated to Jupiter, Indigo is to Saturn and Neptune while Violet is to Uranus. Black has its association with Pluto and White is linked to the Moon.
The use of colours to take advantage of their healing energies can be incorporated through various mediums such as the wearing of clothes and gemstones, use of opaque light bulbs in a particular colour or even respective coloured curtains and bed lamps. All of these help in generating relief and attaining quick results.
